Harley-Davidson New Softail for 2018 – Harley Davidson Sport Glide

Harley-Davidson New Softail – 2018 Harley Davidson Sport Glide

This bike doesn’t do justice to the original, which had a fixed functional engineered fairing(albeit a little ugly), a ton of suspension travel and mid-pegs. It was also lighter. Had lower fairings too. It was a sporty touring comfortable corner ripper(for a Harley..). It’ll appease the wannabes. Not the FXR die-hards. Millennials in skinny jeans and shorty boots will flock to it. That’s the idea I guess….

I think Harley is killing it. If they could bring their prices down to at least within 15% of their competitors they’d probably do really well. Their older customer base wasn’t real good at math, but back then, even the mentally challenged could find good paying jobs. Younger riders making that kinda dosh with the all the info in the world at their fingertips are likely far better educated and less susceptible to Harley sales BS.

Harley doing what they do best…practically nothing. Hey lets hang some more chrome and make them even heavier. Like they are putting 2018 stickers on a 1918 motorcycle. And that is why they are slowly sinking. As the only people left that will buy them any more are slowing dying off from old age. Take a look in Craiglist adds and see the many, many Harleys for sale…as many as all the other brands of motorcycles combined. Just don’t get it.

19K pricey…gotta pay for all that R&D I guess, but man…that’s expensive! give up 2K and spring for a Street Glide right!?!

The Harley is a special bike and made for special tastes and should be treated as such. It is not “everymans ” motorcycle. They are making a mistake with their advertising and with the hodge podge new models. You can not make Harley something it is not. It is not a dirt bike it is not a rocket bike it can not be a dual purpose bike. It is a big touring full dresser or a powerful cruiser. A Harley 500! no way who wants that, go buy a 500 from someone who has made them for years. Harley is missing their own point. Well I an ole school Harley guy (68) and have had a dozen chopped big Twins and even a Sportster. Have four at present. If Harley can”t find a way back to its real customers it is doomed

Harley has lost touch, plus “celebrities” and rich people are not going to keep HD afloat, it’s working class stiffs who have kept them going all these years. If they quit building Sportsters the place will fall on it’s ass because the Sportster model alone has kept HD going through tough times if you look back over the years of sales figures. They are “thinking” people will ohh and ahh because a celebrity is riding a new bike that was given to them, not went and looked at and bought because they wanted one, but riding it because it was given to them. Plus, these bikes won’t get ridden much so they won’t be seen out on them. Just another thing to place in the garage to collect dust. If they really wanted to make an impression they should have gone out and found some every day working folks to give a bike to. If I had the cash to buy a new bike right now, it’s be an Indian. Harley has distanced themselves from the very people who made them what they are today, they are stepping on the very folks as they climbed the latter of whom they will be begging to get back when the rungs begin to fall out from under them. We got them to the top and now they are giving us the finger.
