Chopper Motorcycles

chopper motorcycles

This is a little video retrospective of some of the chopper motorcycles that I’ve owned over the years.

I grew up on the East Coast and that’s where my passion for high-powered chopper motorcycles began. Actually my first motorcycle was an old 1950 something Harley-Davison with a suicide shift.

Chopper Motorcycle Ride

Chopper Motorcycle Ride

This chopper motorcycle ride departed early from College Avenue and Highway eight in San Diego with three chopper motorcycle riders. One of the riders, Jose, came down from Oceanside California. We left early in the morning to avoid the August hot weather. Because of the hot weather, we chose to write up the Mount Laguna and the old gold mining town of Julian California.

So, starting at a couple hundred feet elevation, we ended up going up in elevation to 4,226 feet! once we got up to Mount Laguna it was just perfect blue skies with a couple of clouds and great motorcycle riding weather! Read more »

Motorcycle video tip

Motorcycle video tip

Make your next motorcycle video much more entertaining! I’m sure you know about VR 360 videos, this motorcycle video tip is how to use a 360° video to provide your audience scenes that you preselected from the raw 360° footage and then converted it into a regular ‘flat’ video. Motorcycle video tip:

Using this technique, is almost like having a passenger behind you filming your motorcycle ride at various angles, all from one small stationary 360° camera that is attached to your motorcycle helmet. Read more »

American Ironhorse Tejas Model

American Ironhorse Tejas Model

When new, this moidel sold for approximately $28,995. Don’t get too excited, American Ironhorse went out of business in 2008. Because most of their bikes look like one off custom machines, they still remain in high demand in the resale market. I believe a huge factor in their continued high demand, besides their ultra-cool look, was the fact that they chose the American-made S&S engine to power all their motorcycles. Many other motorcycle manufacturers and custom builders went with imported V-twin engines, that most bikers consider way inferior when compared to the S&S engine.

This bike like most of the American Ironhorse line, came standard with the 111-inch S&S engine. AIH offered two other options: a 117-inch ($1,000) or a 124-inch ($2,000) motor. American Ironhorse opened for business in 1995. American Ironhorse was the largest factory producer of custom motorcycles in the United States until production ended in 2008. Read more »

San Diego Chopper Motorcycle GoPro Ride

San Diego Chopper Motorcycle GoPro Ride

Riding my 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper on a really hot day in San Diego California.

The camera I am using to film this video  is a GoPro Hero 4 Black and I’m shooting at 1080, 60 frames per second  super wide  angle mode. The camera, is mounted on the right side of my helmet.

If you’re using your GoPro camera  to film your motorcycle rides, as long as it’s mounted on your body or your helmet you really don’t need a stabilizer to get good footage. But if you decide to mount the camera directly on the bike, the handlebars or the frame, it really pays to use  a three axis gimbal to get your best shots. Read more »

California Texas Chopper Motorcycle

California Texas Chopper Motorcycle

American Ironhorse Texas ChopperEric’s 2004 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper motorcycle. when it comes to factory manufactured chopper motorcycles, it’s my humble opinion that the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and the Big Dog  K-9 are two of the classic and best built chopper’s!

We did this video in front of San Diego Harley Davison on Marina Boulevard  here in San Diego. many other motorcycle riders and most of the general public when looking at the Texas Chopper believe that it is a rigid frame model because of the low seat position and no visible rear shock absorbers.
