According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, in 2011 motorcycle fatalities rose 2.1 percent to 4,612 from 4,518 in 2010.In 2011, 55 out of every 100,000 registered motorcycles was involved in a fatal crash, compared with only 9 out of every 100,000 passenger cars. Motorcyclists were about 30 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled in 2011 and five times more likely to be injured.
