As I say in the video, before starting any basic maintenance on your motorcycle, always review your motorcycles service manual for specific instructions pertaining to your year and model bike. Maintenance specifications and procedures can change even on the same model motorcycle from year-to-year.

Here in Southern California, to bring your bike in to a motorcycle dealer for a basic oil and filter change, can easily run you well over $100. if you do this simple maintenance procedure yourself, even with the cost of the best grade oil, and best oil filter, you can easily save over half the dealer cost by doing it yourself. But, it’s my opinion that the money savings from doing your own basic maintenance are secondary to the feeling of accomplishment that you will get from having successfully done it yourself and also having the knowledge that it was done correctly!

In my own personal motorcycle I always use full synthetic motor oil. Now, with that said, I always use regular 20/50 weight motorcycle oil for the primary case. I haven’t seen one owners motorcycle manual yet, that recommended use of synthetic oil for the primary case, and in reading through different motorcycle forums, I’ve come upon a number of post where riders who did you synthetic oil for the primary, many times ended up with their clutch slipping.

Also, when it comes to motorcycle oil there is still a debate going on whether it’s worth the extra cost to go full synthetic or stick with basic dinosaur oil. I don’t think it’s really that important which way you go on the type of oil, it’s more important, at least in my opinion, that you change your all oil at the recommended manufacturers intervals.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A chopper is a type of custom motorcycle which emerged in California in the late 1950s. The chopper is perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles, often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched-out appearance. They can be built from an original motorcycle which is modified (“chopped”) or built from scratch. Some of the characteristic features of choppers are long front ends with extended forks often coupled with an increased rake angle, hardtail frames (frames without rear suspension), very tall “ape hanger” or very short “drag” handlebars, lengthened or stretched frames, and larger than stock front wheels. The “sissy bar”, a set of tubes that connect the rear fender with the frame, and which are often extended several feet high, is a signature feature on many choppers.
