Here in Southern California there are quite a lot of Hot-Rod and motorcycle shows. Probably the vast majority of the shows, because they are mixed with Hot-Rods and motorcycles, only provide a trophy for the best in show for motorcycles while the Hot-Rods usually have a number of categories for trophies.
As far as motorcycle only shows, there are just a few. Most of these, almost always have numerous categories as well as the best in show. Personally, I think these are the only fair way to judge motorcycles for these types of shows. Really, how would you judge a beautifully it restored flat track racer against a totally custom chopper?
Also, having attended a lot of the shows, I think we’re really lucky here in Southern California because a lot of the shows are totally free to enter, as they are supported by the local merchants/Chamber of Commerce in order to have an event that draws lots of people into their business areas.
California motorcycle shows
If you have a nice bike, whether the show is free or at a nominal charge for a worthy cause, I think it pays to enter, because they are great places to meet other motorcycle enthusiast and also if you’re like me, and only hang on to your bikes for a couple of years, putting pictures of the trophies that you won, increases your likelihood of a sale at a good price. Let’s face it, people like winners and they like their bikes to stand out from the crowd.
So, if your bike has won numerous shows, especially in a major metropolitan area, when you go to sell it and people see these trophies next to your bike, you’ll definitely be more successful in your sales efforts. Now, this is not just theory, I’ve done this a number of times with my bikes and so I can really state that this works and well worth your time . . . Because you will achieve a much quicker sale at a better price by showing that your bike is in a knowledge winner! Yes, as soon as your buyer takes delivery of your bike, they have instant bragging rights!
